Saoirse Ronan, an Irish-American actress, may finally have her shot at winning an Oscar for her portrayal of Jo in the new film, Little Women. The 25-year-old actress has previously been nominated for an Oscar three times before for her roles in Atonement, Brooklyn and Lady Bird.
It only takes one powerful scene by Ronan to understand why she is drumming up Oscar buzz. “Ronan delivers a monologue that speaks for generations of women,” Vanity Fair said. Her performance has been described as “fierce”, “terrific” and her best work to date, according to various critics.
The actress has put up with people struggling to pronounce her very Irish name over the decade. During the talk show circuit for her last film, Ronan reminded the audience how to say her name correctly: “Ser-sha, like inertia.”
